Course Overview: The MAT Diabetes Course covers administering blood glucose and urine ketone tests, as well as calculating insulin doses, giving insulin by syringe and pen injector, and giving glucagon. This course was recently revised to include new content on insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, nasal glucagon, as well as new delivery techniques for injected glucagon, and other new information.
Warning: You are not authorized to administer medications to children using the skills covered in this course until you have successfully completed both MAT Diabetes Part 1 (online) and MAT Diabetes Part 2 (in the classroom). You must complete both parts 1 and 2 to earn an official MAT Diabetes Certificate, which certifies you to administer the medications covered in this course.
Prerequisite Requirement: Only providers who hold a current MAT Certificate or MAT First Renewal Certificate are eligible to take the MAT Diabetes Course. You must provide proof of your qualifying MAT Certificate or MAT First Renewal Certificate directly to your MAT Trainer for entry to MAT Diabetes Part 2. Admission Requirements: Proof of current CPR/First Aid certification is required for admission to MAT Diabetes Part 2. A valid MAT Diabetes Part 1 Completion Certificate is also required for admission to MAT Diabetes Part 2. MAT Diabetes Part 1 Completion Certificates are valid for 6 months.
