Course Overview: The MAT Epilepsy Course provides instruction on the management of epilepsy in a child day program environment and covers administering medications and treatments that a child with epilepsy may need, including rectal medications, seizure rescue nasal sprays and vagus nerve stimulation treatments.

Warning: You are not authorized to administer medications to children using the skills covered in this course until you have successfully completed both MAT Epilepsy Part 1 (online) and MAT Epilepsy Part 2 (classroom). You must complete both parts 1 and 2 to earn an official MAT Epilepsy Certificate, which certifies you to administer the medications covered in this course.

Admission Requirements: Proof of current CPR/First Aid certification is required for admission to MAT Epilepsy Part 2. A valid MAT Epilepsy Part 1 Completion Certificate is also required for admission to MAT Epilepsy Part 2. MAT Epilepsy Part 1 Completion Certificates are valid for 6 months. After 6 months, you will be required to take MAT Epilepsy Part 1 again, in order to be admitted to MAT Epilepsy Part 2.

Additional Course Information: There are two different course options for the MAT Epilepsy Course. This course is offered to both MAT-certified providers and uncertified providers, to meet the needs of all providers who care for a child with epilepsy. Please pay close attention to the two options and make sure you select the option that is appropriate for you. If you are unsure which option is best for you, please email matsupport@medhomeplus.org

  • Option 1: MAT Epilepsy for MAT-Certified Providers provides specific training on epilepsy, epilepsy management, and administration of epilepsy medications. This version is designed for providers who hold current MAT Certification.
  • Option 2: MAT Epilepsy for Uncertified Providers provides training in safe medication administration skills, needed to care for a child with epilepsy, in addition to specific training on epilepsy, epilepsy management and administration of epilepsy medications. This version is designed for providers who DO NOT hold current MAT Certification. If you are AMAT-certified, you must still take this version.
